A Little Back Story and History

In operation since 2017, Mauka View is a fresh, new space. Andrew and his dad, world-renowned Recording Engineer and Producer, Paul Vastola, started with the Vocal Isolation booth, and the rest just fell into place. A start-to-finish DIY project, Paul and Andrew poured many hours of blood, sweat and head scratching into the design and construction of this modest but capable space. From the ventilation system, to double-pane windows, and custom Control Room, every angle and aspect of the studio is unique and purpose-built.

Andrew Vastola

Owner and Engineer

Andrew was born and raised in the foothills of Colorado, just west of Denver. He grew up as a lover of music of all kinds, and took off as a drummer as a young age. After moving off to college to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, Andrew started playing in the local music circuit, and quickly became engulfed in the scene. As college continued and Andrew found himself transferring to the University of Colorado at Denver to finish his Bachelor's Degree in Music Technology, he became a key player in the booming Denver indie music scene. Andrew hit his stride playing drums in his early bands Grace Like Gravity, and later Sound of Sinners and Signal to Noise.

He also excelled in Engineering after starting as just an intern at his father Paul Vastola's world-class Rocky Mountain Recorders studio in Denver. After captaining Studio B at Rocky Mountain Recorders for nearly 10 years, Andrew was ready for a change of scenery. So he and his family made the move to Kauai in 2012. After some exploring, Andrew settled in to his home on the majestic North Shore. Finding a serious void in the selection and availability of legitimate recording spaces, there was no option but to create his own. And Mauka View Studio was born.

When he is not in the studio, Andrew can be found out and about exploring the beautiful island of Kauai with his son Berlin and their chihuahua Remy.
